Andrew Chang and Jennifer Hall will be the new anchors of CBC News: Montreal, starting Sept. 8. (CBC)CBC Montreal has announced three new radio and television hosts will be taking the helm in the coming weeks.
Beginning Sept. 8, Jennifer Hall and Andrew Chang will be the new anchors of CBC News: Montreal, the expanded 90-minute newscast from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. ET on CBC Television.
Hall joins the team at CBC Montreal from Parliament Hill, where she was national affairs reporter for CTVglobemedia's 'A' network.
Prior to that, Hall was both host and producer of the provincial current affairs program Inquiry with Jennifer Hall. Her move to the anchor desk is familiar territory, as she has held the role for many of the past 20 years.
Nancy Wood will take the helm as host of CBC Radio One's morning show, Daybreak, starting Aug. 24. (CBC)“Coming to Montreal is a natural next step for me and my family," said Hall. "We've always loved this city. The people, culture and language give it soul and character like no other place in Canada."
Andrew Chang is a familiar face to CBC viewers. He joined CBC Montreal in 2005 and, since then, has reported on the biggest Quebec stories in recent memory, including two provincial elections and the:
- Dawson College shootings.
- Laval overpass collapse.
- Bouchard-Taylor commission.
- Montreal Canadiens riots.
More recently, he was part of the CBC Montreal team that uncovered and broke the Earl Jones financial scandal.
"I’m a front-line journalist," said Chang. "I like to be where the story is happening. I plan on getting out from behind the desk as much as possible, and bringing the viewers along with me."
Nancy Wood takes over Daybreak
Starting Aug. 24, veteran journalist and broadcaster Nancy Wood will be the new host of Daybreak, CBC Radio One's Montreal morning show.
Born and raised in Montreal, Wood began her career in journalism 25 years ago, and has lived in Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto and Ottawa. Before joining the CBC, she worked for Maclean's magazine, the Toronto Star and the Montreal Gazette.
Wood has reported on every major event in Montreal since the mid-1990s, including the:
- 1995 Quebec referendum.
- 1998 ice storm.
- 2006 Dawson College shootings.
Since 2005, Nancy has been a national television news reporter covering Quebec for CBC Newsworld and CBC News: The National with Peter Mansbridge. Before this assignment, she was the host of CBC Montreal's Radio Noon for 11 years, and a daily contributor and analyst on Daybreak.
“I am thrilled to be returning to radio broadcasting where I started at the CBC almost 15 years ago and to be leading the Daybreak crew in giving Montrealers what they need to start the day,” Wood said.
Daybreak is heard on CBC Radio One (88.5 FM and 104.7 FM) weekday mornings from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. ET.
