A funeral will be held in Vassan, Que., on Thursday for a Canadian Forces sapper who was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan Aug. 1.

Matthieu Allard, 21, as well as Cpl. Christian Bobbitt, 23, were killed in the Zhari district, west of Kandahar, while working to find and defuse bombs.

Allard and Bobbitt served with the 5th Combat Engineer Regiment based at CFB Valcartier in Quebec.

Bobbitt's funeral service was held in Valcartier on Monday.

The two young soldiers survived an initial attack on their convoy, but were hit by a followup bomb when they left their vehicle to secure the area.

Vassan is in northwest Quebec, more than 500 kilometres from Montreal.
