The assault trial of Quebec junior hockey goalie Jonathan Roy was postponed until Aug. 17.

Roy, the son of former NHL goalie Patrick Roy, is accused of attacking rival goaltender Bobby Nadeau during a bench-clearing brawl in March 2008. During a fight between the Quebec City Remparts and the Chicoutimi Saguenéens, Roy was seen skating across the ice to fight with Nadeau.

The assault trial was supposed to open in Saguenay, Que., Monday morning with a defence request that the case be thrown out.

Prosecutors successfully asked the judge to postpone the proceedings until next month because they said they need more time to study the charges.
