Quebec Health Minister Yves Bolduc announced Thursday more than 600 additional samples taken from Quebec breast-cancer sufferers will be tested to ensure the women are receiving proper treatment. (CBC)More than 600 additional samples taken from Quebec breast-cancer sufferers will be tested to ensure the women are receiving proper treatment, health officials confirmed Thursday.
Quebec Health Minister Yves Bolduc announced last month that 2,100 samples would be re-examined after a study revealed faults in the province's breast-cancer testing.
Following the report's release, Bolduc said misinformation reported in the media led to unnecessary worry for breast-cancer patients. A committee of experts reporting to Bolduc said there's no evidence the initial tests were incorrect, but it is recommending the new tests be done as a precautionary measure.
Bolduc told a news conference in Quebec City on Thursday the updated number of samples to be tested is 2,730.
The tests will be performed on samples taken between April 1, 2008, and June 1, 2009.
