A wayward slapshot by a Montreal-area teenager will cost his parents $44,000.
A Quebec Superior Court judge ruled this week that the family of a 15-year-old boy must pay damages after his puck struck another boy in the mouth.
The incident took place on March 3, 2006, in the town of La Plaine, north of Montreal near the community of Mascouche.
The 15-year-old boy was practising his slapshot at an outdoor rink in Des Ruissaux Park when one of his pucks veered off, hitting a nine-year-old boy in the mouth. The boy lost three of his teeth.
The victim's parents took the case to court claiming $72,000 in dental care along with $10,000 for other problems resulting from the accident.
Judge Julien Lanctôt ruled this week that the 15-year-old boy was responsible for two-thirds of the damage.
The judge said it was not prudent for someone to fire slapshots with young people nearby.
