A man subdued with a stun gun last week has died, Quebec provincial police said.
Quilem Registre, 39, died Wednesday night in a Montreal hospital, said a provincial police spokeswoman.
Police will not release any more details about the circumstances surrounding his death.
Registre was struck by one or several electric shocks from a Taser gun last Sunday, after police stopped him for a traffic violation around 9:30 p.m. in Montreal's St-Michel district.
Police said Registre hit three parked cars and acted intoxicated when they approached him. They said they used a Taser gun to subdue him because he was aggressive.
He ended up in hospital in critical condition and required two operations before dying Wednesday night.
Registre had been living in a halfway house after serving two-thirds of a four-year prison sentence for theft.
Montreal police said Taser guns are used when a suspect is out of control, violent, or so numb to pain that pepper spray has no effect.
Provincial police are investigating the incident as required under Quebec public security laws when officers are involved in the death of a suspect.
Registre is the second Taser-related death in Canada this week.
Robert Dziekanski was shocked with a Taser at the Vancouver International airport on Sunday, after he arrived following two days of travel. Dziekanski was pronounced dead a few minutes later.
