Police in Trois-Rivières, Que., continue to hope that missing nine-year-old Cédrika Provencher is still alive, saying they have been getting calls from people who believe they have seen the girl.

Since Cédrika was last seen on July 31, police have received more than 3,000 tips from the public. About 1,000 of them have been checked, according to police spokesman Richard Gagné.

So far, none of the tips has paid off, Gagné said Wednesday.

A fourth child has come forward with a description of a man believed to have been asking children to help him find a lost dog. Investigators are working to produce an artist's sketch of the man.

There may have been a woman working with the man, according to local resident Madeleine Bournival.

She said she told police she had talked to Cédrika just before she disappeared and the girl told her she was helping a woman find a lost dog.

There is an $80,000 reward for any information that helps police find the missing girl.

The reward money was donated by residents of several communities in the area and collected by Sun Youth, a Montreal organization that provides aid for the underprivileged.

Police suspended their ground search for Cédrika Aug. 12, but continue to check out tips they receive from the public.
