Passenger rail service between Toronto and both Ottawa and Montreal will be disrupted until at least Tuesday afternoon after part of a freight train derailed in Kingston, Ont., Monday morning.

According to Via Rail, 32 cars of a 142-car freight train left the tracks just before 6:30 a.m. ET near Kingston's Via Rail train station.

There were no reported injuries, but Via Rail said the Ministry of the Environment had been called to investigate one car that was spilling light industrial oil.

Via Rail temporarily closed access to its Kingston station Monday morning and suspended ticket sales for destinations between Toronto and Ottawa or Montreal.

Via said customers holding rail tickets for the corridor would be put on buses for at least part of their trip during the rest of Monday and part of Tuesday, and would likely face travel delays of approximately two hours.

The derailment also blocked road traffic at the level crossing at John Counter Boulevard near the train station.
