The president of Tourism Montreal will keep his job despite raising the ire of municipal leaders when he called the city dirty and ugly.
Charles Lapointe ruffled the mayor's feathers when he appeared in front of Montreal's Board of Trade Monday and said trash and dirt were tarnishing the city's image and driving tourists away.
Montreal Mayor Gérald Tremblay called for Lapointe's resignation, questioning his ability to promote the city when he has no problem making "inappropriate comments" about it.
On Thursday the Tourism Montreal board met in an extraordinary meeting to discuss the trash controversy — and decided to allow Lapointe to remain on the board.
Tourism Montreal spokesman Pierre Bellerose said there was no reason for Lapointe to step down.
