Organizers of Quebec City's 400th anniversary celebrations say they still need $5 million in sponsorship — but promise year-long parties involving everyone from members of the Huron First Nation to Cirque du Soleil.
People won't be disappointed by the festivities throughout 2007, the organizers promised as they announced the agenda on Monday.
It kicks off with an all-night party on the eve of Dec. 31. Quebec comedian and director Denis Bouchard will host the inaugural event.
Quebec's popular Summer Festival will feature special anniversary programming, Bouchard said.
Organizers can't divulge many more details because final contracts haven't been signed with various producers and sponsors, said Danny Pelchat, the anniversary's artistic director.
However, the organizers said the Huron First Nation will play a role in the celebrations and the Cirque du Soleil will also be involved.
Quebec has struggled to cobble together its budget for the anniversary celebrations.
Organizers said they have secured about $85 million already from various governments, but they're still seeking about $5 million in sponsorship from the private industry.
