The Pointe Claire man charged in the hit-and-run death of a woman on Highway 20 in Dorval last Sunday night has been denied bail.
Kelly Canning, 35, faces a series of charges, including impaired driving causing death and hit and run causing death.
In refusing bail, Judge Louise Bourdeau told Canning Wednesday she has concluded his two prior convictions for drunk driving make it unsafe to release him.
Damaged Mustang's bumper was left at the scene of the hit-and-run accident last Sunday.

Canning began to cry as Bourdeau announced her decision. He appeared confused when she said he would have to stay in custody pending his preliminary hearing. He turned to his lawyer, Roger Volky, and said, "Does that mean I'm stuck here."
Police said they believe he was at the wheel of his Ford Mustang, travelling up to 180 kilometres an hour, when it rear-ended a car carrying four people, including Cecile Dion, 79, who was killed. Three others were injured.
Outside the courtroom, Crown prosecutor Jerome Gagne said Bourdeau's ruling might have been different if Canning had a clean record.
Gagne and Volky will be back in court on Friday to set a date for the next hearing.
