Police have charged a Pointe Claire man in the hit-and-run death of a 79-year-old woman on Highway 20 in Dorval Sunday night.

Kelly Canning, 41, faces a series of charges, including drunk driving causing death, and hit and run causing death. His bail hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

Cecile Dion was killed and three other people were injured when their car was rear-ended by a car that left only its front bumper at the scene of the accident. Police said the impact caused the Dion car to roll over several times before crashing into a concrete median.

The tell-tale bumper allowed police to identify the hit-and-run car as a black Ford Mustang. A telephone tip led them to a condo in Pointe Claire where they found the Mustang, and arrested Canning at his mother's home.

Canning pleaded not guilty to the charges Tuesday, but the Crown objected to him getting bail, which triggered Wednesday's bail hearing.
