Police across Quebec hope a new top 10 fugitive list posted on the internet will help them catch more suspects.

The website is inspired by a similar program run by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the U.S.

Police often post photos and biographies of suspects eluding capture.

Quebec provincial police chief inspector Gary McConnell says suspects such as David Carroll, a Hells Angels member wanted for murder, drug trafficking and gangsterism, are the ones police hope to snag with the help of the website.

"People are wanted, and we added a tool to make sure to arrest him, and to put him where he belongs," McConnell said.

To make the web top 10 list, suspects must meet several criteria.

There has to be a national warrant for their arrest and they must be wanted for a crime committed in Quebec.

Unlike similar lists in the United States that offer handsome rewards for tips, police in Quebec won't pay for information.

"Because we don't want to make it the bounty-hunter style. We want the population to call us to help to find this person," explains Patrice Cardinal of the Sûreté du Québec, which helped compile the list, along with the RCMP and municipal forces.

The RCMP has its own list of most wanted suspects, with a website displaying photos of 30 wanted fugitives.

Top 10 list posters will also be displayed at stores and small businesses throughout the province.
