Citing a spike in the number of obese children in the province, Quebec's Association for Public Health says there should be tighter rules for companies that advertise food products to children.

The association says the number of obese children in the province has doubled over the last 25 years. One in five children is overweight.

The association's Lyne Mongeau says kids get the wrong message from ads.

"When you look at the publicity or the societal messages for healthy food, it's very low in quantity compared to the publicty for sodas or chocolate or chips or go to the restaurant," Mongeau says.

Quebec already has laws in place that limit ads targeted toward children. Mongeau says those laws should be strengthened.
