Firefighters in the Saguenay responded to a fire at Ste-Cécile elementary school in Jonquière, Que. early Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out just as classes were starting.
The cause of the fire is not known but reports say renovation work was being done on the building.
The school had recently been given $2 million to renovate its gymnasium.
Staff and all 249 students were brought to Kénogami High School, where they will stay until noon when school buses come to get them. However, parents with children at Ste-Cécile can pick up their children from the high school at any time this morning.
- Children in the school's childcare services will be transferred to Sacré-Coeur's school childcare at 11 a.m.
- Parents going to Kénogami High School to get their children are being told to use the door near the swimming pool.
No injuries have been reported.
