Richelieu paving crew supervisor injured by drunk driver
Worker in hospital with serious injuries after he was hit by car and sent flying
A paving crew supervisor is in hospital with serious injuries after he was hit by a drunk driver early Saturday morning in Richelieu.
Capt. Gilles Villemaire of the Richelieu–St-Laurent police department said the accident happened around 6 a.m. when a driver in his early twenties sped through a flashing red light at the intersection of Highway 112 and Chemin des Patriotes.
His car hit the 34-year-old supervisor, who was knocked about three metres before landing hard on the pavement, Villemaire said.
The supervisor was taken to hospital where he’s listed in stable condition with serious injuries to his shoulder and legs.
He was to undergo surgery Saturday afternoon.
Villemaire said the driver was taken into custody and was found to be over the legal alcohol limit.
He was released later on Saturday morning with a promise to appear in court, where he could face charges of impaired driving causing bodily harm, among other charges.
