Police are investigating the shooting of a 44-year-old man on Tuesday night in the town of Richelieu.

The man was found outside his house on Lionel-Dubuc Street after police received calls about gunshots in the area.

He was taken to hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

Richelieu-St-Laurent police spokesman ​François Cinq-Mars said the victim is known to them and investigators are looking for a suspect.

Cinq-Mars offered no other details but said the investigation is continuing.

Richelieu is located about 30 kilometres east of Montreal.
