Police in Saint-Eustache, Que., say a 31-year-old mother was taken into custody after allegedly trying to drown her two children.

The 31-year-old woman's husband was awoken Sunday morning by the sound of his children's screams, police say.

His wife had allegedly tried to drown her two children — a four-year-old and a six-year-old — in the bathtub of the family's home.

When her husband woke up and intervened, she was trying to commit suicide, police said.

The husband called police and the woman was arrested.

The mother and children were taken to hospital, where the woman remains for now. Police say her life is not in danger.

Her two children were not injured, but they have been placed in youth protection while police continue their investigation.
