Quebec police arrest kidnapping suspect in Terrebonne
Man, 28, in custody after tanning salon worker is found kidnapped and beaten
Quebec provincial police have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with an overnight kidnapping in Terrebonne, 30 kilometres north of Montreal.
Police made the arrest shortly after 5 p.m.
Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Benoit Richard said a Terrebonne resident called police to say a strange man was lurking in her backyard. He said that man turned out to be the kidnapping suspect.
Earlier, officers had been searching for the man in a wooded area near the intersection of Rodrigue and Michaud streets in Terrebonne.
Those woods are about a five-minute drive from a tanning salon. The owner of the salon called police this morning after finding the door to her business ajar, the place ransacked and money stolen, Richard said.
Richard said the salon owner told police that the employee working there last night, a 21-year-old woman, was missing.
Police found the woman in a nearby wooded area at 12:30 p.m.
Richard said the woman was seriously hurt, although those injuries are not life-threatening. He could not provide any details of the extent of her injuries or whether she had been sexually assaulted.
