This weekend, more than 100,000 construction workers will kick off an annual tradition that has been around since 1971 — the Quebec construction holiday.
Most building and road projects in Quebec will grind to a halt between July 21 to Aug. 3 inclusive, and motorists could be at a higher risk of getting into a collision.
Statistics compiled by Quebec provincial police from 2003 to 2007 suggest the months of July and August are when Quebec drivers are most likely to be involved in fatal traffic crashes.
The holiday is the result of an agreement reached between workers and employers in 1970.
Transport Quebec CAA-Quebec are calling on drivers to be extra cautious on the roads.
