Police officer on bike struck by driver in Cartierville
Officer uninjured after car hits bike, dragging it 15 metres
Police are looking for the driver of a car who they say struck a police officer on a bicycle Thursday evening.
The incident took place around 7:20 p.m. on Cousineau Street in Cartierville as three officers on bicycles had stopped the car for an infraction.
The male driver stopped the car but then suddenly put it into gear, hit the officer's bicycle and drove off, say police.
“The driver of the vehicle decided to press on the gas towards the police officer. Luckily the driver hit the bicycle and not the police officer,” said police spokesman Const. Jean-Pierre Brabant.
The car dragged the officer’s bike for at least 15 metres. The officer was not hurt.
Police investigators collected evidence at the scene and are now trying to track down the suspect.
Brabant said police are not releasing the description of the vehicle at this time.
