Police investigating after man's body found along Lachine Canal
Passerby walking dog in Lachine found body of 37-year-old man around 11:20 p.m.
Montreal police are investigating the death of a 37-year-old man whose body was discovered along the Lachine Canal late Thursday evening.
A police spokesman said a man walking his dog along the canal found the body around 11:20 p.m. Thursday near St. Joseph Boulevard and 7th Avenue in Lachine.
The body showed signs of violence and the major crimes unit was called to the scene.
The man's identity has now been established but police are only releasing the victim's age.
Police say they are familiar with the man and they are hoping his family will be able to help them piece together his recent whereabouts and who he might have had contact with in the last few days.
Police say this is the seventh homicide of the year.
Police wait to question woman in Villeray homicide
Police also confirmed that the death of an 83-year-old woman yesterday was Montreal's sixth homicide of 2014.
The woman was found dead in a house on Saint-Gérard Street near Villeray Street on Thursday morning.
Police are waiting to question a 59-year-old woman who was found at the scene. She had been taken to hospital in critical condition.
