Police divers recover body from Saint-Maurice River

Police divers have recovered a body near where a 20-year-old man went missing while swimming in the Saint-Maurice River south of Shawinigan on Friday.

Police divers have recovered a body near where a 20-year-old man went missing while swimming in the Saint-Maurice River south of Shawinigan on Friday.

The man was attempting to swim from one rock to another in fast-moving water near Hydro-Quebec’s La Gabelle dam, according to others who were there.

The incident was witnessed by the man's friends and family.

Provincial police divers pulled a man's body from the cold, fast water about 500 metres from where the swimmer went under.

The body was sent to a hospital in Shawinigan for identification.
