A fire destroyed a home that was under construction in Pierrefonds-Roxboro Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the scene on Laurin Street near Gouin Boulevard shortly before 3 p.m. ET

A spokesperson for the department says the flames spread quickly, and the building collapsed.

Firefighters are now using an excavator to try to ensure the fire is extinguished.

They believe the fire started on the ground floor, but because of the extent of the damage they say it will be difficult to determine the cause.
