Montreal police have made seven arrests of alleged street gang members following an investigation into an attempted murder in St-Michel in December.

Montreal police Const. Dany Richer said officers carried out nine searches today in Montreal and Laval-area homes and stores.

He said the searches led to the arrests of seven people  men and women between the ages of 30 and 50.

Richer said four of those people are facing charges of attempted murder, and three of them are facing narcotics-related charges.

"Investigators believe it's related to Asian organized crime," Richer said.

The investigation stems from a stabbing that took place outside on Dec. 28 near the corner of Bélair Street and 12th Avenue in Montreal's St-Michel neighbourhood.

The victim, a 22-year-old man, was severely injured.

Another man, 21, was arrested on the scene.

At the time, police said blood spatter led them to a nearby house, where they found a marijuana grow-op.

According to Richer, police now believe that two suspects were trying to get inside that residence on Bélair Street.
