Canada Day celebrations are underway in Montreal and holiday hours are in effect for stores and various services over the long weekend.

There is a lot to do in Montreal on Canada Day.  But be warned that many stores are closed over the next two days.

Events around the city

The annual Canada Day parade will begin at the corner of du Fort Street and Sainte-Catherine Street at 11a.m. It will make its way down Sainte-Catherine Street and stop at Peel Street.

The city of Montreal has put together a lineup of events taking place throughout the city.

People can expect to find an inflatable play-park as well as and various entertainer sand comedians along the docks in the Old Port.

Montreal West will be showcasing its own family-friendly events beginning at 3 p.m.

The borough will hold a "bling'd-up bike contest" at Davis Park for people who wish to show off their bicycle decorating skills.

The parade will walk right along Westminster Avenue at 4 p.m. and people are expected to gather at Strathearn Park for a barbeque, pony rides and entertainment.
