A Montreal man, 82, was arraigned in court this afternoon on charges of possession, distribution and production of child pornography, invitation to sexual touching and sexual interference with minors.

Joseph-Charles-Philippe Côté will remain behind bars until his next court appearance on March 7.

His lawyer said the majority of the accusations are linked to his time spent in the Dominican Republic, starting in 2003. Investigations suggest Côté travelled frequently to the Caribbean nation.

Police authorities in the Dominican Republic confirmed Côté was staying at a resort in Sosua, a village about 250 kilometres north of capital Santo Domingo.

Quebec provincial police confirmed an investigation into the sexual exploitation of children on the internet led investigators to Côté. Officers said they seized hundreds of photos of children in suggestive poses after they obtained a warrant to search and analyze Côté's computer.
