Montreal firefighters tackle three overnight fires
Witnesses say fire at a Montreal North restaurant was deliberately set
Three fires across the city kept Montreal firefighters busy Thursday morning, and police consider one of them suspicious.
Police said witnesses reported seeing two people throw what appeared to be a molotov cocktail into a restaurant at the corner of St-Michel and Champdore in Montreal North around 1 a.m.
The restaurant was damaged in the ensuing fire and 12 apartments above had to be evacuated.
No one was hurt in the fire.
In the Rosemont-Petite-Patrie borough, firefighters responded to a kitchen fire at the Elio pizzeria at Bellechasse and Drolet streets around 4 a.m.
No injuries were reported and fire officials believe it was accidental.
Firefighters also responded to a minor fire at a three-storey boarding house on Montcalm Street in Montreal’s Gay Village.
No injuries were reported in that fire.
