More than 700 city workers are busy cleaning up garbage unveiled by the melted snow.

It will take a total of six weeks to clean the city's 11,000 kilometres of road, sidewalk, bike paths and alleyways.

City executive committee vice-chair Anie Samson says Montrealers can lend a hand by signing up for the big spring cleanup, May 2-4.

Samson says the city relies on the public's help to keep Montreal clean.

“Don't ask what we can do for you, but you can do for us. And this is the message that we want to tell to citizens,” she said.

Samson says last year over 5,000 people participated in the weekend-long clean up, and is hoping at least that many people come out again.

Participants can sign up online here on the City of Montreal's website.
