Montreal arson squad investigates Côte Saint-Luc fire
Witnesses reportedly saw someone throw an incendiary device before fleeing
The Montreal police arson squad is investigating after an overnight fire destroyed a home under construction in the Montreal neighbourhood of Côte Saint-Luc.
The started fire after midnight at a home near the corner of Tommy Douglas Street and Abraham DeSola Road, near the Hippodrome.
Montreal police Const. Daniel Lacoursière said the fire spread to neighbouring buildings, forcing about a dozen people out of their homes.
Resident Inna Vinitsky said the roof of her townhouse was destroyed in the flames.
"There was a big explosion, the fire started, and it caught on to our building,” Vinitsky said.
Firefighters said the explosion may have been caused by propane bottles, although officials said it's not yet clear what caused the fire.
Radio-Canada is reporting that witnesses saw someone throw an incendiary device at the building before fleeing. Police would not confirm the information.
No one was injured.
