Residents in Mile End are paying a tribute to a homeless man in his 80s who was a fixture in their neighbourhood.

Most knew him as Michael or Mike, although his birth name was Domenico Meduri.

Mike hung out near a grocery store on Park Avenue — until one day last December when he wasn’t feeling well.

Montreal police officers took him to hospital, where he died last week.

“A lot of customers are coming in crying, so everyone senses his loss and the fact he won't be around anymore,” said PA Supermarket manager SoulaNatiotis.

Now shoppers and business owners are honouring him with a memorial wall.
