The Mercier Bridge is set to reopen Monday, Aug. 11 at 5 a.m. after seven weeks of major repairs closed all but one lane in either direction.
However, the Châteauguay exit ramp towards the South Shore will be closed completely overnight from Friday to Saturday while workers remove the worksite.
Drivers are being asked to detour via the La Prairie exit, Old Malone Road and service roads toward Châteauguay.
The major repairs saw the bridge deck of the federal section replaced, including the portion that spans the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Since 2007, more than $120 million has be invested in the bridge’s maintenance and repair.
Quebec’s Ministry of Transport plans to spend at least an additional $300 million in the coming years to delay the bridge’s deterioration.
The province also says it is doing studies to determine whether the structure should be demolished and a new bridge built in its place.
The Ministry of Transport says it will make that decision within a year.
