Mascouche police chase ends in arrest
Radio-Canada captures rare video of an overnight police chase
A man is in police custody after a high speed chase in Mascouche, northeast of Montreal.
It started around 2 a.m. on Thursday in the Mascouche area, when police approached a pickup truck hitched to a trailer, parked along the side of the road.
Police say the 25-year-old man was trying to steal the truck, which belongs to a person who left it to go snowmobiling for several days.
When officers approached, the suspect took off and police pursued, trailing the truck for up to an hour.
Officers from the local Mascouche force as well as Quebec provincial police followed the truck on highways 25 and 640, at some points going as fast as 150 kilometres an hour.
The chase ended in Mascouche after the truck drove over a set of police spike strips.
The 25-year-old tried to flee on foot, but he was arrested by police near the intersection of Anglais Road and Station Street.
No one was injured.
Police say the driver is known to police. He could face charges including theft and dangerous driving.
