Man surrenders after barricading himself in home near Canada Games
50 athletes return after being forced from their residences
About 50 athletes with the Canada Games in Sherbrooke, Que. were forced out of their residences today when a man barricaded himself in a home across the street.
The man surrendered to police on Tuesday afternoon after he had been barricaded in a house since 11 a.m., on Winder Street in the Lennoxville neighbourhood.
No one was hurt in the incident, which appears to have been a domestic dispute.
CBC's Douglas Gelevan said authorities evacuated six nearby residences, which were housing athletes and volunteers with the Canada Summer Games.
Luc Fournier, CEO of the Canada Games, said that some scheduling of the events will have to be adjusted.
Organizers have worked a grace day into the schedule, and said things should be back to normal soon.
