Montreal police officers were called to an alley near St-Dominique Street and De Maisonneuve Boulevard, behind the St-Laurent Metro station, at around 4:30 a.m ET Sunday.

They found the man with stab wounds to his upper body. He was transported to hospital, where he later died.

Const. Jean-Pierre Brabant said investigators intend to meet with a woman who is considered to be an important witness.

“At the arrival of police officers, they saw there was a woman with the man that was lying down, so that woman is going to be met by investigators to know is she saw anything, if she has any information or description of any potential suspects,” Brabant said.

He also said St-Laurent Metro surveillance camera footage will be looked at. In the interim, St-Dominique between Ste-Catherine Street East and De Maisonneuve Boulevard will be closed to allow police investigators to search for clues.

The man's death is the third homicide of the year on the island of Montreal.
