Laval police are searching for two suspects after an early morning foot chase in the île Paton area.

Police said they received a 911 call at about 3:45 a.m. reporting that three suspects were walking through apartment building parking lots and trying to break into cars.

Laval police Const. Nathalie Lorrain said when officers arrived, the suspects fled and one of them jumped into a channel of the Rivière Des Praires.

"We lost his trace and we were afraid for his life of course ... it was very dark," Lorrain said.

She said after officers searched for several minutes with no luck, the police K-9 unit helped them track down the young man.

"He had bit of difficulty breathing ... and he was transported to hospital and we're waiting to have news," she said.

Lorrain said the other two suspects are still at large.
