Longueuil father in custody after girl, 13, dies
Man, 71, remains in custody on aggravated assault charge
Nouténé Sidimé died at the Montreal Children's Hospital on Saturday night, four days after police said she was assaulted at the family home.
Longueuil police said that at about 6 p.m. last Wednesday, the girl's father, 71-year-old Moussa Sidimé, called 911 to say that he had hit his daughter and she was hurt.
Const. Patrick Barrière said when police arrived at the apartment on Chambly Road, they found the girl on the floor.
"When police officers got there she had a bleeding nose and was unconscious," he said.
Sidimé was arrested and charged with aggravated assault the following day.
He has remained in custody since then.
Barrière said prosecutors are considering new charges against Sidimé now that his daughter has died.
He is expected to appear in Longueuil court on Tuesday.
