A five-year-old boy has died following a collision last week between an unmarked police cruiser and a sedan in Longueuil, on Montreal's South Shore.
The incident happened the morning of Feb. 13 in the borough of St-Hubert, at the intersection of Gaetan-Boucher and Davis boulevards.
Also inside the car were the boy’s 14-year-old sister and their 31-year-old father.
The boy was taken to the Montreal Children’s Hospital. His sister and father sustained minor injuries.
Their car was struck while the driver was making a left-hand turn.A 29-year-old on-duty officer with the Sûreté du Québec was at the wheel of the second car.
The officer was treated for nervous shock.
The Montreal police service has been called in to investigate because the death involves the provincial police.
The SQ officer has been met by investigators, and according to Const. Letizia Comparsi of the Montreal force, the investigation is progressing.
A neighbour said the intersection is particularly dangerous, and he was not surprised by the crash.
