Quebec provincial police are investigating the death of a volunteer ski guide at Le Massif in the Charlevoix region.

The 56-year-old man died in hospital last night after he was found with severe injuries on the ski hill about 75 kilometres east of Quebec City.

Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Claude Denis said rescue crews searched for several hours on Sunday afternoon before they found the missing man.

Denis said officers will return to the ski hill as soon as possible to try to understand what happened.

"It's too early to make a conclusion ... Is it a health problem that the victim had, is it speed involved or something like that?" he said.
