Quebec provincial police say they have taken over the investigating of a fatal shooting in Laval because it could be linked to organized crime.
A man in his fifties was shot dead Wednesday at around 4 p.m. just outside a restaurant on Dagenais Blvd., in the district of Fabreville.
Police are not releasing the name of the victim.
However, sources told Radio-Canada that the victim is 54-year-old Roger Valiquette — a man with ties to the mafia.
Laval police received reports of several gunshots. When they arrived on the scene, they found the victim on the ground in the parking lot of a restaurant.
Emergency technicians tried to revive him, but he was declared dead on site.
The Sûreté du Québec has taken over the investigation because the case may involve organized crime.
