City councillor Jeremy Searle is denying allegations that he was drunk at a Tuesday morning council meeting.

Searle has been at the centre of a scuffle at city hall this week, after a heated exchange between him and Denis Coderre ended with Searle saying the mayor, “has a brain problem.”

Now Searle is facing allegations from other council members that he was under the influence of alcohol during a council meeting.

On Wednesday morning, the independent councillor for Loyola district told CBC’s Daybreak there is no truth to those allegations.

“It’s 8 o’clock in the morning. Do I sound like I have a problem with alcohol? I don’t think so,” he said.

When Daybreak host Mike Finnerty asked Searle if he had been drinking before council meetings, Searle replied, “How many days before?”

When Finnerty pressed the question, asking if Searle had consumed alcohol in the hours before a council meeting, Searl denied it.
