The Honoré Mercier Bridge that links Montreal with the South Shore will close completely Friday night in order to replace bearings under the bridge deck.

Lanes will close starting at 9 p.m., and the bridge itself will close completely in both directions between 11 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday.

There will still be access for emergency services on the bridge.

Drivers are being encouraged to take the Champlain Bridge instead.

The work could be postponed because of weather conditions, so drivers should check the bridge's Twitter account or the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Inc. website.
