One man is dead and two others are in the hospital after two transport trucks collided head-on along Highway 30, in the Montérégie region.

Highway 30 westbound was completely shut down near the Saint-Jean exit for several hours, while only one lane in the eastbound direction was open.

Quebec provincial police said the collision happened Tuesday, just before 11 a.m..

Sgt. Ingrid Asselin said the driver of a 53-foot long transport truck was heading eastbound when he swerved into the left lane, hit a car, and lost control of his truck.

The truck ended up crossing the median and driving in the wrong direction on the westbound highway. That's when he collided head-on with another transport truck.

The driver of the first truck died.

Police said the two other drivers were rushed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators will try to find out the cause of the accident.
