A funeral will be held in Saint-Jérôme on Monday for a Quebec provincial police officer who was killed on the job last weekend.

A public funeral for Donovan Lagrange will take place on Monday.

Donovan Lagrange, 33, was hit by a vehicle while he was returning to his patrol car after intercepting a driver in a speed trap on Highway 640 in Bois-des-Filion in the Laurentians.

The public ceremony will take place at 2:30 p.m. at the Saint-Jérôme Cathedral, about 50 minutes northwest of Montreal.

Lagrange was a nine-year veteran of the provincial police force.

After his death, police said too many drivers fail to comply to the "move-over" law that came in effect on Quebec roads in August.

The law compels drivers to slow down and move away from service vehicles parked on the side of the road that have their lights on.

The Sûreté du Québec continues to look for witnesses of  the accident in which Lagrange was struck. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-659-4264.
