Four suspects in Southwest home invasion in police custody
Video captures police chase and capture of one suspect in alley near crime scene
Four people are in custody after a violent home invasion in the Côte-St-Paul district of Montreal's Southwest borough early Thursday morning.
Video by Radio-Canada captured police chasing and arresting one of the suspects in an alley near the scene.
Police say the suspects broke into a house near De L'Eglise Avenue and Laurendeau Street around 1:30 a.m. and assaulted one of the three residents inside with a blunt object.
The 21-year-old man was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Police arrived on scene just as the suspects were exiting the house.
Three suspects were arrested in a vehicle and a fourth was captured by police in an alley after fleeing on foot.
Police also found a suspicious package with the suspect who was caught in the alley. Officers called in the bomb squad to assess the material inside, which determined it was not a threat.
The four suspects are aged 19 to 22 and are known to police, a spokesperson said.
Police believe they were trying to steal electronics.
They are expected to appear in court Thursday afternoon to face charges.
