CBC News has learned that a man who was shot this morning in Outremont is a former gang member.
Police sources confirmed the 43-year-old victim is Bruno Lefebvre, a former member of the Rockers — a biker gang affiliated with the Hells Angels.
Lefebvre was sentenced to 11 years in prison for conspiracy to commit murder, drug trafficking and gangsterism after he was rounded up as part of a massive police operation in the spring of 2001.
Earlier today, Const. Daniel Lacoursière said the man was shot at least once at about 8:30 a.m. ET today while he was inside Galarneau & Frère Plomberie, a plumbing supplies business at 1184 Van Horne Avenue.
Lacoursière said the man, who is an employee at the business, was shot at least once in his upper body.
He was taken to hospital in critical but stable condition.
Investigators were on the scene for most of the day and spoke to several witnesses.
One person told CBC News new owners had taken over the store in the last year. Another person said he saw several motorcycles parked outside the store over the last year.
Lacoursière said police are looking for at least one male suspect, who fled the scene.
Some witnesses say two men ran out of the store and into the back alley.
