Firefighters are still on the scene of a major fire at the town hall and adjoining community centre in the municipality of Sainte-Julienne in the Lanaudiére region, about 65 kilometres north of Montreal.
Municipal employees were just arriving for work this morning at around 8:30 a.m. when the fire began in the administration building in the community of 9,300.
The fire quickly engulfed the buildings, leaving them a total loss.
Firefighters worked to prevent the fire from spreading to the fire station next door.
No one has been hurt.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
Highway 125, which runs through Sainte-Julienne, is down to one lane.
