Montreal police are searching for a suspect after a fatal hit and run in Côte-des-Neiges.

Police said a 70-year-old woman was killed on Tuesday night, when she was hit by a vehicle on the side of Queen Mary Road near the corner of Westbury Avenue at about 10:30 p.m.

Const. Raphael Bergeron said police believe the woman was hit by a dark SUV.

According to Bergeron, the driver stepped out of the vehicle for a few moments, before getting back inside and driving off.

The woman was taken to hospital where she was declared dead.

Police investigators were on the scene of the incident Wednesday morning to search through surveillance video from nearby businesses for a description of the vehicle.

Montreal police are asking anyone with any information about the vehicle or the driver to contact them.
