A failed breaker at the Montreal Children's Hospital prolonged reliance on back-up generators during this afternoon's power outage.

The MUHC's director of public affairs, Richard Fahey, said the breaker was replaced as quickly as possible and delayed the power restoration by 30 minutes. Fahey said no patients needed to be transferred during the outage.

A firefighter at the Montreal Children's Hospital told CBC people were stuck in a hospital elevator for more than an hour during the outage.

The 20-minute power outage affected 13,000 clients in downtown Montreal, Saint-Henri and Westmount this afternoon. Power was also out at Dawson College.

A spokesperson for Hydro-Québec said the outages were caused by a problem with a power line.

During the outages, callers also reported slow service on the orange and green metro lines.
