Montreal's Unitarian Church raised more than $11,000 with its Empty Bowls event Saturday. (CBC)

They ran out of bowls – and soup – at the Empty Bowls fundraiser at Montreal's Unitarian Church on Saturday.

Now organizers are appealing to crafty people to donate their hand-made bowls for the fundraiser's second event next weekend.

The premise is simple — potters provide hand-made bowls for guests who make a cash donation in exchange for a lunch of soup and bread.

Participants get to keep the bowl.

On Saturday people lined up around the block 45 minutes before lunch was served. More than 400 bowls were sold, raising $11,157 for five Montreal food security agencies.

Another Empty Bowls will be held at Congregation Dorshei Emet in Hampstead on Sunday, April 22.

Any potters willing to donate to Dorshei Emet's event can contact Sheila Caplan at sheila.caplan@gmail.com.
